THE ink is dry on a $250,000 a year deal for the new home of Basketball Geelong.
The two warehouses, measuring 5000sq m, at 20 Crows Rd, Belmont, will be converted to a basketball centre when the league moves in.
Darcy Jarman, Geelong West, agent Tim Darcy said the lease would initially run for 10 years and convert the former timber warehouse into basketball courts.
“The property is 20 Crows Rd, Belmont. They’ve taken a 10-year lease on the property where we understand they’ll do a full conversion,” Mr Darcy said.
“It’s an old timber warehouse, it’s part of the old Belmont Timber set up, there was a Home Hardware there,” he said.
“The total warehouse size is more than 5000sq m with the two warehouses combined, with about 230sq m of office space.”
Despite the large size of the warehouse, the league will still need to use external courts, according to Basketball Geelong CEO Dean Anglin.
“From our point of view, we’re trying to consolidate what we do a little bit. The six courts at Crows Rd won’t be big enough for us on their own – we’ll still need external facilities,” he said.
